New programs, free VBS, and a dinner table open to anyone in the Bedford community.
If you live in Bedford and you've been curious about what goes on at Calvary Baptist Church — or if you're just looking for some meaningful things to do with your family this summer — I want to give you a real, honest answer: a lot is happening here, and most of it is open to anyone who wants to come.
We're a small congregation in Bedford, Virginia, and we've never been much for putting on a show. But this summer, we've got three things I'm genuinely excited to tell you about.
Every Wednesday evening this summer, we're hosting a community dinner night at the church. No program. No pitch. Just a real meal, a real table, and real conversation with people from Bedford and the surrounding area.
Doors open at 6:00 pm for arrival and mingling, and we sit down together around 6:15. There's no charge and no agenda — just good food and the kind of connection that's harder to find than it should be. Whether you've been attending Calvary for years or you've never set foot in a church, you're welcome at this table.

Our Vacation Bible School this year is called The Emerald Crossing, and it's four days of adventure, music, crafts, and Bible stories for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade. It's completely free, and you're welcome to just show up — no registration required.
That said, if you register your child ahead of time, we'll guarantee them a t-shirt. Either way, your kids will be welcomed and cared for. If you have children in that age range and you're looking for something meaningful to do with them in the middle of July, this is it.

In September, we're launching something we've been looking forward to for a while. On the same night, under the same roof, we'll have Calvary Clubs for children, a teen Bible study for students, and a parent Bible study for adults — all happening at the same time. The idea is simple: your whole family comes together, and everyone gets something that's built for them.
We'll have more details on this closer to the fall. But if you're a family in the Bedford area who's been looking for a place where your kids are genuinely invested in and where you can grow too, keep an eye out.
Come as you are
I know a lot of families in Bedford have questions about church — whether it's the right fit, whether they'd feel welcome, whether it's worth the Sunday morning effort. I'd just say this: start with dinner on a Wednesday night. No expectations, no pressure. Just come and see.
We're at 800 Smith Street in Bedford, Virginia. If you have questions about any of these programs, feel free to reach out through our website at calvarybaptistbedford.org. We'd love to meet you.
