We've been told our whole lives: don't pray for humility, or God will give it to you. But what if that warning has it completely backwards?
Most of us avoid humility because we're convinced it will cost us — our reputation, our opportunities, our sense of justice. In this message, we go straight to Scripture and find that it's not humility that robs us. It's our pride.
In this sermon, we cover three things Scripture tells us about humility:
Humility positions you for God's blessing — not yourself lifting you up, but God lifting you up (James 4:10; 1 Peter 5:5-6; Proverbs 22:4)
Humility protects you from living a lie — pride doesn't just make you wrong, it makes you confidently wrong (Galatians 6:3; Philippians 3:4-9)
Humility strengthens your relationships — it's hard to be around a proud person, and God feels the same way (Philippians 2:3; Colossians 3:12-13)
Key Verse: "God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble." — 1 Peter 5:5 (KJV)
