The Foundation of True Personal Change

Jesus Christ is the only solid foundation for true spiritual change.
If you truly want to change, you must first accept the fact that the foundation of true personal change is Jesus Christ. The amazing thing about God is He has a plan that will radically change your life. At the center of that plan is His Son, Jesus Christ. Having a relationship with Christ is the first step to realizing true change in your life. The Bible clearly states that God is perfect in every way.
Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy. Leviticus 19:2b
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Matthew 5:48
Unfortunately, our issue is that there absolutely nothing that we can by our own efforts to achieve God’s level of perfection. All of us are born already with sin in our hearts. There is nothing perfect about any of us.
For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not. Ecclesiastes 7:20
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23
We cannot save ourselves and we cannot depend upon any other person to redeem us. Deep down inside, we know this to be true. Consequently, all of us must begin by admitting that we are indeed helpless in meeting God’s standard. Admitting we have a problem is foundational in overcoming our problem. Our desire to experience real change in our life starts with us admitting our sin and our inability to overcome sin. Then, it continues as we repent and turn to God. Repentance is a word simply meaning a change of direction. We repent by determining we are no longer going to live for ourselves, and, instead, we are going to start living God’s way.
I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. Luke 15:7
Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; Acts 3:19
The amazing thing is through God’s mercy and grace we can change. By recognizing our lost condition and believing wholeheartedly and sincerely on the Lord Jesus Christ, we can be completely changed. Additionally, we receive eternal life as well as forgiveness for our sins.
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 1 John 5:11-13
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:9-13
