Overcoming Life Dominating Sin Habits
God instructs each of us to examine ourselves and “put off” anything that is part of our old sinful life. Scripture describes it as the “former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts.” “Putting off” means that we are STOP yielding or placing ourselves under the control of sinful habits. In fact, if you continue reading that chapter, God lists several things that we must “put off” or “put away.”

Overcoming Life Dominating Sin Habits Part 3
We MUST NOT FORGET that God has a powerful enemy that is very real. I say powerful, but this enemy of God does not even come close to the power of God. However, for us, he is a powerful enemy. You see the world likes to make light of God’s enemy. In fact, there are several comedy sitcoms that make light of God, Satan (God’s enemy), and all things spiritual. I am here to remind you this morning that Satan is very real. He wants more than anything to keep as many people in bondage that he possibly can. He has a diabolical plan that includes deceiving people and crippling God’s people by encouraging them to sin.

Overcoming Life Dominating Sin Habits Part 2
Last week, I shared with you from God’s Word His view of us and our sinful habits. God is very clear that we are responsible for own deeds. Deeds meaning every word, action, and thought. Matthew 12:36 says that we will give an account for every idle word that we speak. 2 Corinthians 5:10 says that each of us will stand before the judgment seat for the good and the bad that we do. There is no escape to this fact. We are responsible for ourselves. I will not be held responsible for your deed just as you will not be held responsible for my deeds. I will answer for myself. You will answer for yourself. I do believe that a true follower of Christ desires to stand before the Lord that day and hear the words “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” However, there is one big hurdle that often stands in our way of doing good. It is our sinful nature. And, if we were to try to do things on our own, we would have NO HOPE of ever hearing those words spoken by Christ. Yet, the amazing thing is that there is HOPE!

Overcoming Life Dominating Sin Habits Part 1
Many people including Christians wrestle daily with sinful habits. They live continually in bondage to many things. Things like drugs, alcohol, sexual immorality, other people, peer groups, false religions. Many are even in bondage to self-centered habits such as gossip and laziness. Even self-oriented desires for power, food, and wealth can enslave people. Anything that we allow willingly or even unknowingly to control us other than God’s Holy Spirit is bondage to sin.
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. (John 8:34)
It is possible that many here this morning are dealing with this very issue. I am here to tell you that you can overcome life-dominating sin habits.  If you will allow God to work in your life and be obedient to His Word, you can be set free.
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. (John 8:36)
