The Final Word on Commitment
Let Your Yes Be YesChrist now brings us to the topic of COMMITMENT. He is giving us the final word on commitment. We know that God DOES NOT MAKE MISTAKES. In fact, everything that God says and does is with a purpose and is purposefully ordered. Thus, Christ moves from adultery is a sin to divorce is wrong and now to oaths/covenants are serious business. I must think then as I study this that Christ still has in mind the marriage vow.
You see each marriage is a sacred commitment before God and to each other. The day that a husband and a wife say “I do” is the day they make a sacred oath to God. Family and friends attend. As they attend, they become witnesses to one of the most important vows a person can make. Unfortunately, that vow is very little meaning today. People get married just for the thrill of the ceremony. They say the vows, but in the deep recesses of their mind, they know that society has made it easy for them to break that vow. This goes back to the message on divorce. Remember divorce was happening in Christ’s day for all kinds of frivolous reasons. So, it is today as well. But, as we are going to see this morning, any vow, and may I add especially the vow of holy matrimony, that a person makes to God is an extremely serious matter with God.

Let’s see what Christ said about making oaths or covenants to Him.

He reaffirms what was already stated in the Law.
Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: Matthew 5:33
We find five key passages in the Law of Moses related to God’s commandment concerning oaths. Exodus 20:7 which says…

    Overcoming Life Dominating Sin Habits
God instructs each of us to examine ourselves and “put off” anything that is part of our old sinful life. Scripture describes it as the “former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts.” “Putting off” means that we are STOP yielding or placing ourselves under the control of sinful habits. In fact, if you continue reading that chapter, God lists several things that we must “put off” or “put away.”

    Christmas Mythbuster #3
Today, we are going to look at our final Christmas MythBuster. I have enjoyed this series. I think that it has helped all of us by opening our eyes to what is true versus what is man’s opinion. Without any doubt, we must be very careful about just accepting what a person teaches and preaches. We must be careful even of those who are good Bible teachers and preachers. It is very tempting to simply give an opinion rather than just focus on the simplicity of God’s Word. I know several people have spoken to me and related to me how this series has really helped them. My prayer is that you will continue to always question man’s opinions and simply accept the truth that is God’s Word. Additionally, I hope that you be in God’s Word everyday reading and studying it for yourself. The best way to know what is false or embellishment is to simply know the truth. When you know the truth of God’s Word, it will indeed set you free. So, this morning, in the time that we have left, here is our next myth buster. WAS MARY TRULY A VIRGIN? And, along with that thought, WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT THAT SHE BE A VIRGIN?

Overcoming Life Dominating Sin Habits Part 3
We MUST NOT FORGET that God has a powerful enemy that is very real. I say powerful, but this enemy of God does not even come close to the power of God. However, for us, he is a powerful enemy. You see the world likes to make light of God’s enemy. In fact, there are several comedy sitcoms that make light of God, Satan (God’s enemy), and all things spiritual. I am here to remind you this morning that Satan is very real. He wants more than anything to keep as many people in bondage that he possibly can. He has a diabolical plan that includes deceiving people and crippling God’s people by encouraging them to sin.

Overcoming Life Dominating Sin Habits Part 2
Last week, I shared with you from God’s Word His view of us and our sinful habits. God is very clear that we are responsible for own deeds. Deeds meaning every word, action, and thought. Matthew 12:36 says that we will give an account for every idle word that we speak. 2 Corinthians 5:10 says that each of us will stand before the judgment seat for the good and the bad that we do. There is no escape to this fact. We are responsible for ourselves. I will not be held responsible for your deed just as you will not be held responsible for my deeds. I will answer for myself. You will answer for yourself. I do believe that a true follower of Christ desires to stand before the Lord that day and hear the words “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” However, there is one big hurdle that often stands in our way of doing good. It is our sinful nature. And, if we were to try to do things on our own, we would have NO HOPE of ever hearing those words spoken by Christ. Yet, the amazing thing is that there is HOPE!

Overcoming Life Dominating Sin Habits Part 1
Many people including Christians wrestle daily with sinful habits. They live continually in bondage to many things. Things like drugs, alcohol, sexual immorality, other people, peer groups, false religions. Many are even in bondage to self-centered habits such as gossip and laziness. Even self-oriented desires for power, food, and wealth can enslave people. Anything that we allow willingly or even unknowingly to control us other than God’s Holy Spirit is bondage to sin.
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. (John 8:34)
It is possible that many here this morning are dealing with this very issue. I am here to tell you that you can overcome life-dominating sin habits.  If you will allow God to work in your life and be obedient to His Word, you can be set free.
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. (John 8:36)

    Christmas Mythbuster #2
Here is our second MythBuster for consideration. WAS CHRIST BORN ON DECEMBER 25? OR IS THAT REALLY A PAGAN HOLIDAY BORROWED AND APPLIED TO CHRIST’S BIRTH? This is an awesome question that is sometimes debated each year as we celebrate Christmas. Let’s begin with the pagan holiday that is so often associated with Christmas.

    Christmas Mythbuster #1
For this reason, the birth of Christ as well as His death, burial and resurrection are at the center of Satan’s attack. If he, Satan, can change the narrative, then he can effectively keep people living in darkness separated from God. Again, remember Satan is sly. Instead of outright attacks on the truth, he simply uses “intelligent” people by leading them to embellish these very important historical accounts. In the end, the focus becomes the embellishments and not the real reason why Christ came, died, and rose again. So, my goal is to help bring all of us back to the simple truth of Christ’s birth. My goal is to expose the embellishments. So, here is the first of many. Now, here is the question? Was there a battle in Heaven just before or at the time of Christ’s birth?
