How To Solve The Biggest Problems With Parenting

Parenting is never easy. It can be one of the most difficult, if not, the most difficult jobs in the world. Every parent dreams of raising the perfect child. We hold them in our arms as babies.  We have visions of them growing up talented and  successful. Yet it doesn’t take long before those dreams and visions crash around us. We soon realize that our job is much more than we bargained. Immediately, we begin looking for encouragement and advice on how to parent. And, guess what? There is a wealth of information available today on the subject of parenting. Unfortunately, ninety-nine percent of it is worthless, especially for Christian parents.

There is hope for us. Our hope is God and His Word. In the midst of all the confusing parental advice is the truth of God’s Word. The Bible is the only real source of truth. Everything today points to relative truth. We must return to the absolute truth of Scripture. Successful parenting can only happen when its foundation is the Bible.  No matter how daunting the task, of raising children may seem, there is hope! Our hope is the promises of God.  King Solomon, the wise king  wrote, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6) We have an amazing opportunity to raise our children. An opportunity for them to know God and to grow in a relationship with Him.

There is a warning as well. Shirking our responsibility as parents has some dire consequences. Nothing good can come from neglecting our responsibility in leading our children to God. It will only bring heartache and grief.  The Bible says, “Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.” (Proverbs 13:18)

As parents, we must choose to ignore other’s opinions about raising children. We must insist that we are only going to do what God has instructed. Our children are His heritage/gift to us. Let us not squander this valuable gift. Let’s determine to raise the next generation to know Him!
